My birthday is August 3rd.
Warren and I met at my home church in Birmingham, Alabama when as a college student, he came to be Music Director at my church. I played piano. We married a couple of years later and have been married since 1956. Children: Karen is married to Nathan Byrd and they have three children. Natalie and Nicholas were born in 1997 and Karlie in 2006. Kristi is married to Keith Warden and they have three children, Bryce, born 1993, Brady, born 1996, and Brooke, born 1999. I have been retired since 1999. I taught kindergarten, 3rd grade and 5th grade. I also worked as a Secretary for Southern Bell Telephone Company, Georgia Southern College's Lab School and for The Christian Index (Georgia Baptist Newspaper). I graduated with a Bachelor of Music from Howard College which is now Samford University. In my leisure time, I enjoy traveling, reading, and visiting with grandchildren. I was born in Birmingham, Alabama, and grew up there. I have one younger sister who lives in Texas. I've lived in Alabama, Iowa and Georgia. Interesting places I've visited include Germany, Austria, England, Russia, Alaska, and Hawaii. Also, the northeastern part of the US in October, and a four-week driving trip through the western part of the US. Places I'd like to see in the future include the extreme northwest and northeastern parts of the US where we have not traveled. Also, other countries in Europe. I'm an Atlanta import, and moved here as a result of Warren's position with the Georgia Baptist Convention. I've lived in Georgia since 1965 and in Lawrenceville since 1985. If I was to move again, it would be to move closer to grandchildren, and since some live in Athens, GA and some in Picayune, MS that will be hard to decide. My Dad worked for US Steel as a railroad engineer. Mother was at home but she helped her Dad with his grocery store in the community where we lived. I also worked there during my teen-age years. I became a Christian at age nine and was baptized at Sandusky Baptist Church. Mother was a wonderful Christian influence on my life. Memorable events include our wedding, the birth of our children and grandchildren and the adoptions of Natalie and Nicholas. We did not have a children's music program at my church but I began playing piano at age 13. Mother was pianist but she hurt her hand and I played for her and continued for many years. My voicepart is Second Soprano. My favorite Baptist hymnal (choosing from 1956, 1975 & 1991) is 1991. My favorite hymns are All Hail the Power of Jesus Name (Diadem); Worthy of Worship; Amazing Grace; and Holy, Holy, Holy. |
